With the launch of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500, General Motors has been rolling out phases of its ad campaign for the brand-new pickup truck. The brand recently debuted the latest ad in the campaign, “Jaw Drop,” advertising the Sierra MutliPro Tailgate feature. The feature, named for its adaptable design, aims to introduce a new level of capability to the pickup truck segment.
Referred to in the commercial as the industry’s first “six-function tailgate,” the MultiPro tailgate allows Sierra owners to customize their truck bed and tailgate depending on their needs – whether they need to extend the bed to add longer cargo, fold the tailgate into a footstep for easier loading, or even fold it down into a makeshift work bench (or, as portrayed in the ad, a table for tailgating at football games).
The creation of the Sierra MultiPro Tailgate was GM’s response to customer feedback — truck drivers wanted a more accessible truck bed. After developing the feature, GMC ran clinical trials with real vehicle owners to get their input. The MultiPro tailgate competes with other innovations in the truck segment like the new Ram 1500’s barn-style tailgate that opens by splitting down the middle. However, GMC is confident pickup truck enthusiasts will respond positively to the new feature.
